About The Program:
The Master of Arts in Practical Theology degree offers concentrations in Theological Studies or Worship Studies. The Theological Studies concentration equips students to apply biblical truths and the knowledge of Christ to contemporary issues, which inform our post-modern society. A rigorous curriculum prepares students for many advanced programs in the theological disciplines. The Worship Studies concentration equips interested students in pursuing graduate courses in worship, while providing the solid biblical and theological foundations required to meet the needs of traditional and contemporary church settings. At the completion of this course of study, students should be able to function as theologically informed worship leaders, and apply the knowledge and skills gained in a variety of cultural contexts and communities of faith.
Forty-eight hours (48 hrs.) of academic course and field-based work, arranged in five eight-week sessions, lead to the Master of Arts (MA) degree in Practical Theology. The program is designed for students interested or immersed in ministerial leadership. Students become engrossed in a rigorous study of religion, theology, and worship while experiencing diverse forms and traditions of ministry. In addition, faith communities will serve as hands-on laboratories and sites for practicum experiences as a part of the field education experiences in religious education and leadership. The Master of Arts in practical theology prepares you for professions such as worship leader, religious writer, program director, some chaplaincy and a variety of ministerial settings and services.
